FIRST BATTLE BEFORE PARLIAMENT ELECTIONS
On Tuesday July, 31 2007 was supposed to be a fair municipalities election day in Jordan, however many fundamental Muslims claimed that it was far away from justice and fairness or at least that is what they think…
What is known for many in the world that military servants don’t participate in the elections because they are obviously, or shall we say automatically, practically with the government. And it wouldn’t be fair if they voted because their voices will go to the one who the government wants instead of the one who the nation wants and that is the goal of the election, to let the voice of the nation be spoken out.
For the first time seen in Jordan , tens of military buses stop in front of election centers and there, tens of military got out and forwarded with their IDs to vote for particular nominees. Keeping in mind that most of them voted on announcement (speaking the name loudly) cause these couldn’t read nor write.
And that made fundamental Muslims withdraw from the elections describing it that it was full of corruption and manipulations. Head of ministries spoke that „there is no wrong of letting militaries vote, which is their right”.
Does the Jordanian government want to head toward liberalism? Is it thinking to weaken the Islamic parties? Many of questions are being asked in the middle of this changing era, as also the parliament elections are on doors.
